Gratitude Training

Dec 15, 2021

Eleven years ago I began studying with Brother David Steindahl-Rast, The Father of Gratitude.

Brother David and Ann-Marie

One late Spring afternoon before Zazen we were walking the Santa Fe River path.  I asked him, “Is it possible to always be grateful?”

“Yes,” he responded.  “In Gratitude Training we enjoy whatever is presented to us. We purposely look for the gifts.”

“Ask, ‘What is this opportunity for?’  The answer will cause you to grow.  In retrospect, all life experiences are wonderful opportunities for growth.”

“We tend to think joyful people are grateful for having so much joy. But it’s actually more simple than that.  Grateful people are joyous because they are grateful.”

I loved this course [The Art of Engaged Mindfulness]! It brought me strength, understanding and joy at getting to know myself in a different and more substantive way. I am already using my learning to be a better coach for my clients. My gratitude for this course overflows!

I really enjoyed the class Skillful Means and felt it was the perfect class to kick off my quest to become a certified Mindfulness Life Coach. In this class I was introduced to the Essential Coaching Skills to use in a co-active coaching relationship. The material is well presented, organized and unpacked at a moderate pace that I could easily digest.

Even with 20 years experience in marketing, I found [Business Alchemy] energized me to try on a shifted focus and help me look at all aspects of my branding in new, creative ways. Adding more tools (technology) to my resource quiver gave me options for expression and let me know I don’t always have to hire someone to do what I need for graphic expression. Sarah and Ann Marie were a dynamic combo and made the experience well worth it

S-T-R-E-T-C-H! Becoming The Incredible Coach You Truly Are is an amazing mindfulness coaching class that blew the doors open on coaching practices. A fresh, clean breeze blew in that allowed me to bring my whole self newly to coaching. As an experienced coach, I benefited greatly and I know I will use the skills and practices I learned for years to come.

Mindfulness appears in many forms these days. In The Art of Engaged Mindfulness Ann-Marie takes us on an exploration of wisdom, understanding and practice, which nurtures the depth of our engagement with this powerful way of living.

Working with Ann-Marie McKelvey is a transforming experience! She has coached me through different aspects of Life, from launching a successful coaching career to building my own wellness internally. Ann-Marie has gifts that she shares with those around her to help them be their best possible selves and reach their goals. She does this through listening deeply, asking the right questions and role modeling at the same time! I feel so blessed to have her as my coach!

In this class, the “engaged” piece of Engaged Mindfulness is just as important as the “mindfulness” piece. I was inspired by this dynamic exploration of the subject of mindfulness, from the evidence-based, scientific arena — where we learn about the measurable, practical benefits to humankind of mindfulness practice — to the deeply personal space — where I clarified and re-engaged my own meditation practice both on the cushion and in how I move through the world
