The Altruistic Rewards of Blanca’s Mini-Coaching
My name is Blanca. I was born in Venezuela and moved to California 5 years ago. I am a dog lover, a thoughtful rules challenger and, since last year, an apprentice coach with MCS.
Coaching has been a fun, empowering journey that has given me many experiences with phenomenal people. And I have only just begun!
One of my favorite experiences began last December. As a coaching apprentice I needed to accumulate a minimum of 100 hours coaching clients for the ACC credential.
“How shall I do this?” I asked myself. Then inspiration struck!
I would contribute to the peoples of Venezuela by using my new coaching skills through Mini-Coaching, a one-time coaching session to reflect and create intentions for the new year. There was a $25 suggested donation.
I sent an email explaining all this to my friends and I asked them to pass on the message if they felt inclined. I was nervous, but, people responded and, in the end, $500 was collected and I had over 20 coaching hours!
With the $500 I asked my mom to buy and distribute food in Venezuela amongst people she knew were in need: kids, seniors, and families. It wasn’t easy, especially during a pandemic, but, she did it! It was amazing to witness the impact one manifested idea can have.
This experience clearly revealed the importance of interconnectedness when we “take it to the streets” and show up for ourselves and others. When I connect with my own humanity, I connect with yours!
Amor y libertad,
Blanca Prado, MCS Student from Venezuela
