B.Y.O.G. (Bring Your Own Gremlin)

Ann-Marie suggests listening to Woman In The Moon to ready yourself for reading this article…

Recently, I was coached by MCS students Lionela Torriero, and later Mac Dryden, on my beliefs about aging and dying. I saw the subtle and semi-unconscious beliefs that were not serving me. Beliefs such as “I’m too old to ____.” “I can’t ______ at my age.” “I’ll probably be dead by the time ______ happens.” “I shouldn’t eat ________ because I could have a heart attack!”

Through the two coaching sessions, I saw how the beliefs were creating resistance in my body: a tightening in my belly, curling toes, tapping of my thumbs together, constriction of my shoulders, even my jaw was tight.

Through a visualization process, I saw this somatic resistance with a tar-like substance permeating and accelerating the decaying process of my body. In other words, these beliefs and the image I saw were not supporting a long, healthy and happy life.

What to do?
I contemplated a different reality agreement about age, body, and mind that would free me from the bondage of these shackling belief systems.

Threatened at this point, my Inner Gremlins began to rise… I was suddenly behind enemy lines!

With the help of my coaches, I began to bear witness to the belief systems flooding my awareness. I witnessed how judgment breaks down the body through separation and victimhood belief. I felt my life energy plummet. But then, levity arose and it became a cosmic joke – giving clarity to the cultural programming.

Going with the premise that all thoughts, belief systems, and rules are made up, I thought, “Why not make up my own thoughts that better serve? Why not let go of beliefs about how it’s supposed to be? Why not live thoughts that are fun, wild, and life-giving??”

And so the alchemy began.
By bearing witness, the metallic and fixed belief system began to transform into gold.

How did the alchemic transformation progress?

I made a decision!
I am going to live with a healthy mind and body until I am 165 years old. Yup, 165! Just thinking this, my body responds by moving into a deep state of relaxation while my inhalations and exhalations become longer. And I feel mischievous with a growth mindset.

When I live this golden thought, the limiting beliefs of age melt away and I enter another reality with infinite possibilities – Beginner’s Mind. This reality relaxes my body, washes off the old lenses, and here – freedom thrives.

I challenge you to commit to living to be 165 years old. I invite you to be part of our growing 165 Club – so far, Lionela, Brittany, Mac, Bella, Kevin, Rob and me – and notice how your life changes just by thinking you will live in a healthy mind and body, for a long time!

What are the requirements to be part of the 165 Club?

  • Get to know your Inner Gremlins
  • Get coached on your limiting beliefs
  • Get on your cushion, meditate, and let Cushion Wisdom arise
  • Ask yourself these questions:
How do my negative beliefs advertise themselves?
How do they show up in my body? In my mind? In my loving?
What beliefs do I want to advertise to myself and others?
When I take time out of the equation, what do I hear?
Choose to live to be 165 with a healthy mind and body!

Should you want to explore more about turning your Gremlins into gold, join us on Tuesday, September 4th for the Mindfulness Coaching Call with Business Alchemy teacher, Sarah Kostin and myself.

Here’s the link to register.

With a Deep Bow,
Ann-Marie McKelvey

Body Electric is great for those that are looking to challenge the automatic responses and default ways of thinking and being. Realizing that the conversation with the body has a different vibration and that it doesn’t always speak quickly is so valuable. Our bodies are a wealth of comfort and wisdom. This class provides tools for starting that dialogue with yourself and with others.

I love the capacity to be “unique and whole.” In this course, amidst the trauma of coronavirus, I found it was still possible to listen deeply in the moment. So thank you to this class and the life-giving experiences it offered. The course gave me fresh air for both my mind and body.

S-T-R-E-T-C-H! Becoming The Incredible Coach You Truly Are presented new and experienced coaches the opportunity to learn, apply and refine life-changing skills to better the lives of people. I learned new mindfulness applications that I could immediately apply in my life and roles as a leadership coach and adult educator. I really enjoyed the interaction, meeting new friends, and the freedom of expression. Aloha and mahalo MCS!

I was reluctant to take this course [Mindful Eating: Mindful Life] as I have struggled with eating disorders since my teens. I didn’t want yet another “eating plan” that would add more clutter to my already busy thoughts about food. I honestly only took the class because it was required for PCC and I came in thinking that maybe I could learn something to help my clients. But honestly, I learned a ton about myself, my thoughts about food and eating, as well as many tools and ideas to use with my clients.

Ann-Marie is a great coach and instructor. Watching her coach others and myself was a great way to learn the coaching skills. Loved the energy and atmosphere she has created during the course and maintaining the focus on learning and growth of each end every one of us. Fun, playful and full of interaction and great content.

I have never thought of myself a leader. The designation just didn’t resonate, and I thought this class [If Steve Jobs Were Your Coach: Leadership Skills to Thrive] might be an odd fit for me. This class helped me rethink what leadership means to me. I learned that leadership qualities are powerful everyday tools that I can call on to generate energy and shift perspective in any life circumstance! I came away from this course with an array of creative strategies and lenses to choose from, as I meet challenges in my own life and as I work with coaching clients facing their own challenges.
