B.Y.O.G. (Bring Your Own Gremlin)

Ann-Marie suggests listening to Woman In The Moon to ready yourself for reading this article…

Recently, I was coached by MCS students Lionela Torriero, and later Mac Dryden, on my beliefs about aging and dying. I saw the subtle and semi-unconscious beliefs that were not serving me. Beliefs such as “I’m too old to ____.” “I can’t ______ at my age.” “I’ll probably be dead by the time ______ happens.” “I shouldn’t eat ________ because I could have a heart attack!”

Through the two coaching sessions, I saw how the beliefs were creating resistance in my body: a tightening in my belly, curling toes, tapping of my thumbs together, constriction of my shoulders, even my jaw was tight.

Through a visualization process, I saw this somatic resistance with a tar-like substance permeating and accelerating the decaying process of my body. In other words, these beliefs and the image I saw were not supporting a long, healthy and happy life.

What to do?
I contemplated a different reality agreement about age, body, and mind that would free me from the bondage of these shackling belief systems.

Threatened at this point, my Inner Gremlins began to rise… I was suddenly behind enemy lines!

With the help of my coaches, I began to bear witness to the belief systems flooding my awareness. I witnessed how judgment breaks down the body through separation and victimhood belief. I felt my life energy plummet. But then, levity arose and it became a cosmic joke – giving clarity to the cultural programming.

Going with the premise that all thoughts, belief systems, and rules are made up, I thought, “Why not make up my own thoughts that better serve? Why not let go of beliefs about how it’s supposed to be? Why not live thoughts that are fun, wild, and life-giving??”

And so the alchemy began.
By bearing witness, the metallic and fixed belief system began to transform into gold.

How did the alchemic transformation progress?

I made a decision!
I am going to live with a healthy mind and body until I am 165 years old. Yup, 165! Just thinking this, my body responds by moving into a deep state of relaxation while my inhalations and exhalations become longer. And I feel mischievous with a growth mindset.

When I live this golden thought, the limiting beliefs of age melt away and I enter another reality with infinite possibilities – Beginner’s Mind. This reality relaxes my body, washes off the old lenses, and here – freedom thrives.

I challenge you to commit to living to be 165 years old. I invite you to be part of our growing 165 Club – so far, Lionela, Brittany, Mac, Bella, Kevin, Rob and me – and notice how your life changes just by thinking you will live in a healthy mind and body, for a long time!

What are the requirements to be part of the 165 Club?

  • Get to know your Inner Gremlins
  • Get coached on your limiting beliefs
  • Get on your cushion, meditate, and let Cushion Wisdom arise
  • Ask yourself these questions:
How do my negative beliefs advertise themselves?
How do they show up in my body? In my mind? In my loving?
What beliefs do I want to advertise to myself and others?
When I take time out of the equation, what do I hear?
Choose to live to be 165 with a healthy mind and body!

Should you want to explore more about turning your Gremlins into gold, join us on Tuesday, September 4th for the Mindfulness Coaching Call with Business Alchemy teacher, Sarah Kostin and myself.

Here’s the link to register.

With a Deep Bow,
Ann-Marie McKelvey

Testimonials

Phil was simply amazing. He is abundantly talented, non-judgmental, gracious and wise. He created a strong and safe community where people could take risks, learn about themselves, the coaching profession and above all, grow personally. I saw every person in the course take risks and transform. I am a seasoned leader/executive and I think he is the best facilitator I have ever experienced. He is a rare treasure and I am blessed to have been part of this course.

I went into Right Speech thinking it was a way to connect through words and discovered it was much more. Transforming beliefs and behaviors, courage, resilience, kindness, listening; the qualities of how and what we communicate, nonviolent communication, connecting to self, understanding our needs and feelings as a series of openings that help us coach our clients to self-awareness and the change they want to be.

I fell in love with somatic coaching. I never thought I could actually talk to my body. A completely new world opened up for me personally, as I am sure will be the case also for my clients. I now fully understand as I have experienced it that somatic coaching is the only really holistic way to get to core of the challenges and to the goals that are completely aligned with ourselves.

I very much appreciated and enjoyed the content of this class (The Dynamic Trio). I was using concepts and techniques Ann Marie shared with my clients the day after training. I loved, loved, loved the inclusion of mindfulness in the training and in the concepts. I strongly believe that psychology and spirituality are synergistic disciplines that Ann Marie weaves together masterfully.

Learning how to listen deeply to the wisdom of the body and to trust that we are fluent in our own somatic language has provided such a valuable coaching tool and life practice.
