A little madness is good for the soul!

Sep 3, 2020

When I was 25 years old, I was a consciousness growth trainer living at an educational and intentional community. We had just moved from Berkeley to a 150 acre old Catholic seminary in rural Kentucky. I was homesick. As I was packing to go back west a friend came to my room and asked me to reconsider.

He shared this quote from “Zorba the Greek”: A man needs a little madness or else he never dares cut the rope and be free.

I took it to heart when he said, “Don’t leave! Do something wild.  Something fun. Something outrageous!”

My Karma Yoga that month was to sweetly wake all the residents and students at 6am chanting “OM” while ringing bells.

The next morning I did wake everyone… yelling at the top of my lungs Zorba’s mantra while pounding a big pot with a wooden handle.  I felt untethered, wild and happy! I could not stop laughing! I gained a new perspective and stayed on to work out the kinks of the move.

Zorba aka Anthony Quinn • We all need a little madness!

A challenge:
•Chant throughout the next 24 hours ~
I need a little madness, or else I will never dare cut the rope and be free!

•Watch what emerges.
•Consider what little madness you will do to cut the rope and be free without alcohol, drugs and especially without harm.
•Express that little madness. Move the energy. It will benefit all sentient beings…

I’m doing my little madness in just a few hours. No one will know how it came about or who did it, except me. And yet it will have a big, happy impact for months to come.

MCS continues to complement my journey as a counselor, becoming a coach. This course [The Dynamic Trio] focuses on a new paradigm in human services as well as a new paradigm in consciousness.

It was a different type of MCS class and yet one of the most powerful ones. All classes were filled with practice, real time coaching and wisdom that can be applied in everyday life. This class is for coaches and people who want to develop their communication skills, empathy, listen deeply and speak skilfully. It’s also a class to learn a compassionate approach towards yourself, others and life in general. Read more

The Art of Engaged Mindfulness allowed me to become more flexible with my own established meditation practice. I really enjoyed the opportunity to dialogue with fellow coaches interested in deepening their own practice and sharing it with the world.

What seemed apparent in the course description [The Art of Engaged Mindfulness] cannot contain the experience of going on this journey with Ann-Marie and a class full of incredible people. Because of this course, I’m a better coach and a wiser human.

I signed up with the Mindfulness Coaching School after speaking with Ann-Marie, and because of her experience as an EMDR Therapist. The readings and classes have helped me expand my therapy skills and opened up new perspectives with my clients. Ann-Marie’s style of teaching matches my needs so well. Her intuition, playfulness and sense of adventure are evident during class. I look forward to continuing this journey of personal growth that will lead me to my bliss and help others to do the same!!

The life skills taught in this course [Skillful Means] are not just for our coachees, they are for ourselves, too. I plan to take it again and look forward to seeing how my skills strengthen with time – and PRACTICE!
