A little madness is good for the soul!

Sep 3, 2020

When I was 25 years old, I was a consciousness growth trainer living at an educational and intentional community. We had just moved from Berkeley to a 150 acre old Catholic seminary in rural Kentucky. I was homesick. As I was packing to go back west a friend came to my room and asked me to reconsider.

He shared this quote from “Zorba the Greek”: A man needs a little madness or else he never dares cut the rope and be free.

I took it to heart when he said, “Don’t leave! Do something wild.  Something fun. Something outrageous!”

My Karma Yoga that month was to sweetly wake all the residents and students at 6am chanting “OM” while ringing bells.

The next morning I did wake everyone… yelling at the top of my lungs Zorba’s mantra while pounding a big pot with a wooden handle.  I felt untethered, wild and happy! I could not stop laughing! I gained a new perspective and stayed on to work out the kinks of the move.

Zorba aka Anthony Quinn • We all need a little madness!

A challenge:
•Chant throughout the next 24 hours ~
I need a little madness, or else I will never dare cut the rope and be free!

•Watch what emerges.
•Consider what little madness you will do to cut the rope and be free without alcohol, drugs and especially without harm.
•Express that little madness. Move the energy. It will benefit all sentient beings…

I’m doing my little madness in just a few hours. No one will know how it came about or who did it, except me. And yet it will have a big, happy impact for months to come.

The Art of Engaged Mindfulness has been one of my favorite classes at the Mindfulness Coaching School. I truly appreciate how Ann-Marie has combined the science and spirit of mindfulness. She creates space for students to play and get creative with meditation and find their path to practice. And the resources provided for further learning are priceless!

Becoming a Mindfulness Coach: You and Your Clients helped me deepen my day-to-day mindfulness practice. Using the awareness practices and skills from class, I deepened my sense of how well my thoughts and actions reflect my values and I engaged in exercises and dialogue which supported me in making changes and living more fully in my integrity.

I loved the experiential nature of this class (The Dynamic Trio). I know that the applications being taught can help someone experience powerful breakthroughs… because I experienced powerful breakthroughs!

Probably the single best course I’ve taken in a decade. The somatic templates and in-course use of them were shared from a place of deep knowing and wisdom. Amazing. The reading and sharing of new practices (for me) has made this whole course one of tapping into an ancient wisdom with simple and real practical use. Thank you!

Skillful Means is a great class that teaches the basics on how a to conduct a coaching session. You dive right into learning and practicing coaching. This helped me get out of my own way and start doing what I was learning. I often find myself learning new skills and then never putting them into action, but in this class I got the best of both worlds, learning and doing!

Body Electric takes a coach deep into their own somatic wisdom. This embodied learning then becomes a backbone to how we coach.

STRETCH is fun and exciting and got my creative juices flowing. I was surprised at how much I learned about what I needed, and didn’t need to move forward in launching my coaching business. I also gained more clarity on how I want to deliver my message of what I do. Read more
