Without A Frame

Dec 27, 2018

MCS Founder & Director

Without a frame, potholder loops will not become potholders. They need something to hold onto to in order to become real. Duh!

Without a frame, ideas cannot manifest into reality. Mmm…

Without a frame, ideas multiply haphazardly, creating illusions of overwhelm and resulting in indecisiveness. What a mess!

Our minds innocently perpetuate messy illusions. They do this through:

  • Thoughts
  • Belief systems
  • Perceptions
  • Judgments

I call all of this Mental Abundance. It’s the swirling parade of thoughts that you have access to at any given moment, content aside.

Like all thought forms, Mental Abundance is impermanent – even when it is perceived as being solid, fixed, and eternal.

Oh, Shariputra… Form is emptiness. Emptiness is form.

One of the many gifts of impermanence is that it shakes and shocks us out of our habitual structures and into flowing with what arises.

And something wonderful happens

The impermanence updates us and the Mental Abundance is transformed. Through this alchemy, the illusion is refined into the basic needs required for us to live a wholehearted life, as Zen Master Dogen describes.

But how is this done? How can we consciously participate in this process?

I get curious with myself, and I invite you to do the same. Sit and ask yourself the following questions…

– What am I choosing to think about in 2019? (Where attention goes, energy flows.)

– What belief systems are ready to be uprooted and composted?

– How am I crafting my 2019 life?

– What will I be overflowing with?

With a deep bow to you, to frames, to impermanence, to wholehearted life as we enter 2019…

[Right Speech] was a transformative class for me and Meg Hess was an inspiring and compassionate teacher. I have had an abiding interest in the notion of Right Speech, so I was looking forward to taking this class and curious about how it would unfold. It was very gratifying to see the teachings and practices we learned making a real impact on my listening skills, as well as on my responses to life circumstances and even world events. I am certainly taking away a wider scope of curiosity and the communication and listening tools to more effectively investigate that curiosity, which, in turn, expands the scope of my compassion.

Where Mind Goes, Qi Goes: Somatic Coaching with Qigong introduces us to a simple yet essential practice for, in a sense, returning us to our bodies where we can really begin to sense the energy that we have. This is nourishing for us as coaches who often absorb and hold the energy of our clients, while allowing us to incorporate energy generating, diffusing, directing, and managing practices with those same clients. This class reminds us of the need to stay connected to our bodily wisdom–energetic as well as physical–and not get lost in our head.

Ann-Marie is a fabulous teacher and mentor. She is a superb coach who models coaching skills and mindset throughout the learning process. Coaching is an exciting profession and Ann-Marie’s passion for coaching is contagious. I have made more changes in my life in the 6 months I’ve been taking classes with Ann-Marie than I have ever made in an entire year. I am now more confident and more energized in my work. I am so happy that I’ve taken the leap into coaching with Ann-Marie leading the way!

MCS continues to complement my journey as a counselor, becoming a coach. This course [The Dynamic Trio] focuses on a new paradigm in human services as well as a new paradigm in consciousness.

I attended The Dynamic Trio with Ann-Marie at a time when I was certified on all three of the “Trio” (EMDR, Positive Psychology, & Coaching). I was curious as to how these would be blended and what new things I would learn; and I ended up learning a lot indeed. Ann-Marie has a unique style that makes attending the course worthwhile. The applications she offers do have a positive tone when used with clients facing different struggles. It certainly is beneficial to capitalize on strengths through the approaches she suggests, instead of just focusing on mending one’s weaknesses. I find it a “must attend course” for practitioners in the field of any of these approaches (& others).

This was unlike any leadership course or training I have ever experienced in my thirty-plus years in the workforce. If Steve Jobs Were Your Coach: Leadership Skills to Thrive took traditional leadership topics such as ethics and management of people/products and presented them for the coaching profession by translating them through the inspirational eyes of intuition and mindfulness. Ann-Marie has an acute way of weaving these aspects through virtually any subject matter and leadership qualities is no exception. We tied together these qualities with the outside world and our inner self to anchor them deep within us.

Taking Right Speech with Meg was an inspirational journey. Her expertise, kindness, strength, and dedication to the class and the students came through so fully. I came away seeing that coaching is not just helping people set goals and move towards them, but also has the potential to be a sacred container where people wake up and see their true essence and their gifts and can develop the confidence to bring their dreams to fruition. Very powerful!
